Chinese engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) companies are currently responsible for about 64% percent of all power projects underway in Africa right now and are looking to collaborate with the best in Africa as far as equipment and services are concerned.
As a result, KSB Shanghai recently reached out to these companies and facilitated a high-level meeting between role players and KSB’s own operation in Africa, KSB Pumps and Valves, with one of the most prominent EPC’s in Africa, Power China East.
The resultant meeting was held at PowerChina’s offices in Fourways and chaired by SEPCO III’s (a subsidiary of PowerChina) business development manager, Li Zhilei. It was attended by PowerChina East and Southern Africa representative, Chen Si, KSB Shanghai export manager, Liangxi Huang, KSB Shanghai director of business development, Helen Ding and KSB Pumps and Valves regional project manager, Frikkie Botma.
Frikkie says the meeting was a great success and created a platform to discuss business opportunities with Chinese contractors where previous language and culture barriers prevented penetration into that specific market demography.
“The opportunity to meet with Chinese EPC’s and discuss the possibility of future partnerships has created the probability of future business and created the platform to build strong customer relationships. We also anticipate that entry barriers will be lowered, making future contact with the clients a mutually beneficial experience. We want these new clients to place KSB first on their contact list for assistance and to be their preferred pump supplier for all future projects,” says Frikkie.
In true KSB tradition, following the meeting, our Shanghai-based colleagues invited the meeting’s attendants, as well as KSB Pumps and Valves’ managing director, Peter Weber and regional sales manager, David Jones, to attend an authentic Chinese dinner at a specially selected restaurant nearby. This not only made the occasion memorable, but also gave the delegation a chance to discuss their aspirations in a relaxed environment.
