Privacy notice
How GreenEconomy.Media collects, uses and protects personal information, in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).
Who we are
The responsible party is M People Resourcing (Pty) Ltd, trading as GreenEconomy.Media, registration number 2005/003854/07, 13 Pentrich Road, St James, Cape Town, 7945.
Information Officer: [GEM to confirm: name, email and phone number, as registered with the Information Regulator].
What we collect
We only collect what you give us or what you agree to:
- Newsletter sign-up: your email address, and if you choose to add them, your name, company, job title, sector, province and topics of interest.
- Contact form: your name, email address, company, the topic and your message.
- Analytics cookies, only if you accept them: Google Analytics records which pages are visited, with IP addresses anonymised.
- Staff accounts (GEM team only): name, email address and role.
Why we use it
To send the newsletters you asked for; to answer your enquiry; to understand which stories readers value, so we can report honestly to advertisers; and to run the site securely. [GEM to confirm: any other purpose, for example sharing subscriber details with event partners, which would need separate consent.]
Who helps us process it
These service providers (operators) process information on our behalf, some of them outside South Africa:
- Resend: sends newsletters and contact-form notifications.
- Supabase: stores the subscriber database. [GEM to confirm: hosting region once chosen.]
- Vercel: hosts the website.
- Google Analytics: website statistics, only with your consent.
- [GEM to confirm: the cross-border transfer basis under section 72 of POPIA for each provider outside South Africa.]
How long we keep it
[GEM to confirm: retention periods. For example, subscriber details until you unsubscribe and then for a set period; enquiries for a set period after they are closed.]
Your rights
You may ask to see the personal information we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, or object to its use. Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link that works immediately.
To make a request, contact the Information Officer above. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa): [GEM to confirm current contact details from inforegulator.org.za].
Cookies
The site uses a small number of cookies:
- gem_consent: remembers whether you accepted analytics cookies (six months). You can change your choice any time under Cookie settings in the footer.
- Google Analytics cookies (_ga, _ga_*): only after you accept, and removed if you later decline.
- gem_session: keeps GEM staff signed in to the back end (12 hours). Readers never receive it.
Security
Staff sign in with personal accounts and hashed passwords; the site is served over HTTPS; access to subscriber data is limited to GEM admins. [GEM to confirm: breach notification process under section 22 of POPIA.]
