ACTOM opens new Customer Experience Centre to bring innovation closer to clients

ACTOM is putting customers front and centre with the launch of a new Customer Experience Centre at the Knights facility in Boksburg, Johannesburg. Designed to deliver greater visibility, accessibility, and insight, the Centre allows clients to interact with operational, full-scale equipment and discover how ACTOM’s technologies work together to solve real-world challenges.

**A purpose-built product showcase

**The Centre brings together working examples of ACTOM’s Transmission and Distribution (T&D) offerings, including medium voltage switchgear, distribution transformers, high-voltage equipment, protection and control systems, and AC / DC standby equipment. The equipment has been specially configured to offer maximum visibility into key internal features, with cutaways, viewing windows, and safe operating access.

“The idea is to create an environment where clients can interact with real, working equipment in a way that builds an understanding of the technology and operating principles of the equipment,” explains Johan Jordaan, Technology Development Specialist at ACTOM – MV Switchgear Division. “It gives customers first-hand exposure to see how our products work and how they interface with one another across our divisions.” By showcasing products in a professional, customer-friendly setting, ACTOM makes technical engagement more efficient and accessible – thus elevating customer confidence in our products.

**More than a showroom

**Designed for engagement, the Centre includes a fully equipped presentation and training room, creating opportunities for technical walkthroughs, equipment demonstrations, and interactive workshops. Engineers can use functional units to deliver hands-on product training or test pilot configurations in partnership with clients.

“This is where we move from selling equipment to building relationships,” says Jordaan. “It is a collaborative space where we can explore challenges, demonstrate capabilities, and co-develop solutions that meet our customers’ unique requirements.”

ACTOM also plans to explore future enhancements such as augmented reality experiences to deepen customer interaction with its technologies.

**Designed to enhance access and reduce complexity

**The Centre was inspired by the logistical challenges of transporting large, delicate demo equipment to industry exhibitions. The new space ensures clients can explore ACTOM’s capabilities in a relaxed environment without the interference of a working factory or a busy trade show.

“It removes barriers to engagement,” says Jordaan. “There is no need for PPE required for factory visits, restricted plant access, or offsite travel. Clients can come in, have a coffee, and get a full experience in a relaxed but professional setting.” Visits to the manufacturing facilities would still be possible. Having an area to explain to the customers the technology they would see inside the manufacturing facilities, deepens their understanding of the product being manufactured.

**A milestone in customer-focused strategy

**This is the first Customer Experience Centre focused on ACTOM’s T&D equipment and includes contributions from several divisions, including Static Power, which is located off-site. The Centre reflects ACTOM’s broader shift toward integrated, client-focused engagement and innovation.

“This is not just a room full of products. It is a symbol of how we are evolving as a business by putting our customers at the centre of how we operate, design, and deliver,” Jordaan concludes.

The ACTOM Customer Experience Centre officially opened on 11 July 2025, and is now open to clients, partners, and stakeholders by appointment.
